The Stables at Sleeping Giant

Nestled at the foot of the Maya Mountains, surrounded by lush jungle, and a short drive from your favorite suite, are the Stables at Sleeping Giant. Resting on hundreds of acres of unspoiled rainforest, take in the Sleeping Giant from a unique vantage point on horseback. Perched on a hill, the Stables are your starting point for adventure and relaxation.  

Riding is tailored to your experience level. We invite inexperienced riders and advanced riders. Our wranglers will pair you with a horse who will know to keep you safe and steady on the trail and gallop to your heart’s desire. Regardless of riding level, it would be hard to miss the stunning green canopy overhead. Lucky riders may hear the howler monkeys in the distance and maybe even spot majestic scarlet macaws flying overhead with their impressive wingspan. 

At The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant, we practice gentle horsemanship. We believe firmly that changing the mindset about horses and leading with kindness yields better results from our equine partners than whips and spurs. Our wranglers are committed to leading with compassion and patience, resulting in horses with kind and gentle characters. With horses in our care, 12 are working horses who have been trained and familiarized with our trails. Our remaining horses are still growing with some just entering training. 

Our facilities boast eight paddocks for daytime grazing with shaded areas and stables to protect our horses from predators and the elements. In our saddle room, each horse has assigned saddlery custom fit to his build with custom bits. Our horses enjoy the highest standard of care found in the country.
