Loreto Pelayo Quartet x Russell Hall

Loreto Pelayo Quartet x Russell Hall

Formed in 2019, the Loreto Pelayo Quartet is the leading jazz ensemble in Belize on a mission to pursue the development of jazz and spread the sounds of the genre throughout the country. This jazz combo focuses on the traditional genre developed in the United States from the early 1900s onward. This July 2nd at The Banks, the Loreto Pelayo Quartet is accompanied by Grammy-nominated Jamaican bassist Russell Hall and YouTube sensation Nathan Graybeal, popularly known as Saxologic.

The group will be playing a variety of jazz standards from the greats such as Duke Ellington and Bud Powell. Paying homage to Loreto and Nathan’s roots as video gamers, iconic jazz standards will be intertwined with video game tunes, arranged to be virtually indistinguishable from the American art form of jazz. Listeners can expect music derived from their favourite video game franchises such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and many more. Russell Hall will also be bringing songs from his album Deep Blue Sea (recorded with his band Bessie and the Rainbow Kids), as well as arrangements of songs from Bob Marley, paying respect to his homeland, Jamaica.

Loreto Pelayo

Loreto Pelayo is a passionate guitarist from Belize City whose love for music was first sparked by video game soundtracks. Inspired by jazz, he now studies under Grammy-winning guitarist Pasquale Grasso and frequently travels to New York and Philadelphia to immerse himself in the genre. His playing blends classic influences like Wes Montgomery with the modern sounds of artists such as Julian Lage.

Nathan Graybeal (Saxologic)

Nathan Graybeal is a young artist from North Carolina, most well-known for his YouTube persona “Saxologic”. Originally an avid artist then animator, he has transferred his love for art to saxophone. He spreads his infectious passion to inspire others to find the joy of improving in music. Nathan obtained a bachelor’s degree in both jazz and classical saxophone performance from East Carolina University and a master’s degree from Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

Russell Hall

Whether it’s a swanky, sophisticated jazz club or a boozy, bombastic rock joint, one thing is for certain, Russell Hall is bringing the party with him wherever he goes. Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Miami, Florida, Russell has been playing and recording music since the tender age of 13. He furthered his study of music at the most prestigious conservatory in the world, The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Ben Wolfe, Ron Carter and Wynton Marsalis. He is currently a preeminent bassist in New York City where his session and freelance work has allowed him to work in virtually every facet of the New York music scene.
