Nestled at the foot of the Maya Mountains, surrounded by lush jungle, and a short drive from your favorite suite, are the River Rock Stables at Sleeping Giant. Resting on hundreds of acres of unspoiled rainforest, take in the Sleeping Giant from a unique vantage point on horseback. Perched on a hill, the Stables are your starting point for adventure and relaxation.
Riding is tailored to your experience level. We invite inexperienced riders and advanced riders. Our wranglers will pair you with a horse who will know to keep you safe and steady on the trail and gallop to your heart’s desire. Regardless of riding level, it would be hard to miss the stunning green canopy overhead. Lucky riders may hear the howler monkeys in the distance and maybe even spot majestic scarlet macaws flying overhead with their impressive wingspan.
At The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant, we practice gentle horsemanship. We believe firmly that changing the mindset about horses and leading with kindness yields better results from our equine partners than whips and spurs. Our wranglers are committed to leading with compassion and patience, resulting in horses with kind and gentle characters. With horses in our care, 20 are working horses who have been trained and familiarized with our trails. Our remaining horses are still growing, with some just entering training.
Our facilities boast eight paddocks for daytime grazing with shaded areas and stables to protect our horses from predators and the elements. In our saddle room, each horse has assigned saddlery custom fit to his build with custom bits. Our horses enjoy the highest standard of care found in the country.

Meet Our Wranglers
Reydy Cruz
Wrangler | Horse Trainer | Senior Rodeo Team
With approximately 10 years of experience working with horses, Reydy Cruz, 23, brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for horses to River Rock Stables. He enjoys training horses, helping others develop their horsemanship skills, and sharing his knowledge and experiences with guests.
Reydy particularly enjoys taking guests out on the trails, creating memorable rides, and sharing stories along the way. Outside of the stables, he has a strong passion for rodeo and enjoys competing alongside his two trusted horses, Ella and Spirit. His love for horses, training, and the Western lifestyle is a big part of what he brings to the River Rock Stables experience.
Marcos Contreras
Wrangler | Senior Rodeo Team
Marcos Contreras, 21, has been working with horses for a little over two years. He especially enjoys building a connection with each horse he works with and watching them grow, improve, and develop their confidence.
Marcos recently began participating in rodeo and has quickly developed a love for the sport. He is a member of our Senior Rodeo Team, where he competes with Lucero. His patience with the horses and enthusiasm for learning make him a valued member of the River Rock Stables team.
Shemar Lemoth
Wrangler | Senior Rodeo Team
At 19 years old, Shemar Lemoth has been working with horses for approximately four years. He is dedicated to the daily care of our horses and enjoys building his skills by riding and working with new horses, particularly through training.
Known for his quiet and patient nature, Shemar takes his time to understand each horse and build a trusting relationship with them. He especially enjoys taking guests out on trail rides and sharing the experience of exploring the trails on horseback.
Outside of the stables, Shemar has a strong passion for rodeo, with bull riding being one of his favorite events. He is a proud member of the River Rock Stables Senior Rodeo Team, where he continues to develop his skills and pursue his love for the sport.
Leonardo Contreras
Wrangler | Junior Rodeo Team
At 17 years old, Leonardo Contreras has been working with horses for the past year and has quickly developed a strong passion for them. He is dedicated to the daily care and well-being of our horses and enjoys spending time in the saddle and exploring the trails.
Recently introduced to the world of rodeo, Leonardo has discovered a new passion for competition. He is a member of our Junior Rodeo Team, competing with Lucero and Outlaw. When he’s not caring for the horses or riding the trails, you’ll often find Leonardo enjoying time with the horses and continuing to build his skills.
